By some TV miracle Michael C. Hall is returning to play Dexter Morgan, proving that you just can't keep a crime-solving serial killer dead.
Showtime announced Friday that Hall, 53, will reprise his famed Dexter Morgan role, the character he played in the Showtime series "Dexter" from 2006 to 2013 and again in "Dexter: New Blood" from 2021 to 2023.
This hard-to-believe return will be televised as "Dexter: Resurrection" next summer. Hall will also come back as Dexter, in voice only, for the prequel series "Dexter: Original Sin," now in production.
“We are thrilled to have the brilliant Michael C. Hall reprise his iconic role as Dexter Morgan in Showtime’s most successful series ever,” Chris McCarthy, Paramount Studios co-CEO said in a statement. “While ‘Dexter: Resurrection’ will appeal to the tens of millions of longtime fans, ‘Dexter: Original Sin‘ will introduce a whole new generation of viewers into this iconic series by starting from the beginning, which is sure to satisfy existing audiences as well.”

Even the most casual of Dexter Morgan fans — the one-time blood spatter specialist for the Miami Metro Police Department with a penchant for killing the baddies — would know that the serial killer died at the end of the "Dexter: New Blood" series. And it was a cinematic TV death for the ages.
So just how Dexter will resurrect for "Resurrection" is not clear.
Hall will be taking on double duty, also working on the prequel series "Dexter: Original Sin." Set in the '90s, the series will feature Hall as the inner voice of a young Dexter (played by Patrick Gibson). "Original Sin" is coming to Paramount+ in December.
In "Original Sin," Gibson's budding serial killer and college graduate begins putting his deadly talents to good use with a forensics internship at the Miami Metro Police Department. Patrick Dempsey will play Aaron Spencer, captain of Miami Metro Homicide, and Christian Slater will star as Dexter's father, homicide detective Harry Morgan.
Both series will be executive produced by Hall and Clyde Phillips, who worked on both previous "Dexter" series.
Both Hall and Phillips were at Comic-Con and presented a preview of 'Original Sin." The sizzling clip shows young Dexter with his father (Slater) getting ready for another beautiful Miami day with fantastically sinister overtones. Dexter's sister Debra (Molly Brown) is also seen in the clip.
